Artist residency open call 2024
Art business artist-in-residence
02/01 → 02/30 & 04/01 → 04/30
MADRID
If you are a writer and not an artist, check the other program.
It’s time to get real and get physical! After three years of working with artists online, we are excited to launch our first edition artist residency in Madrid. During the month, you will have a space to live, work, and develop your art business.
Not a free residency
This program isn’t free. The accommodation has a cost (1200 EUR for the month, reduced to 900 for students). Conversely, we offer coaching sessions (20 hours minimum during the month). Our rate is 70 EUR per hour, which will be free for the residency.
Artist-in-residence program
Most residence programs focus on making art in a contemplative environment. Visual art and writing skills are undoubtedly essential, but without business skills, one can not turn a passion into successful full-time work. We aim to help visual creators like you build a solid-owned business and communication strategy. You will be assigned a personal coach from our team who will work closely with you daily.

Open Call for artists
An artist residency is usually focused on contemplation
An artist residency is a place that allows artists to spend time away from their normal day-to-day lives. Then they can research, curate, and form their art. But back home, without focusing on the business aspects of their art, they will be back to the starting point.
This one is about making a living from your Art
To have a successful art career, you need to learn how to communicate and market your art. There haven’t been any artist-in-residence programs that focus on the business side of art.
Art Business residency
Our residency program tackles this problem by combining art practice with business coaching. Our goal is to get you to choose a clear business strategy and work on your personal branding skills. You deserve to get all the help you need to grow your art business.
Specific to the artist
- Independent ensuite bedroom (cost for the artist: 1200 Euros (student: 900 Euros)
- An exhibition at the residency’s space or in collaboration with a gallery

Open call for writers
The artist factory
Being chosen by Larry Gagosian for a solo exhibition?
Following the genius idea, an artist follows a set of social, cultural, and economic conditions that allow them to be trained, financed, supported, recognized by their peers, and unanimously proclaimed. Most successful international artists already have those advantages before starting their art careers. Likely you are not one of them and need to acquire them.
Artist-Writer Collaboration
Ekphrasis
Before writing about Picasso, Apolinaire wasn’t considered an art critic. When he wrote of his admiration for Picasso’s art, the result was the advance of both their careers. It gave Apolinaire his legitimacy as an art critic and contributed to Picasso’s success. There is a term for that kind of writer: Ekphrastic writer
Special thanks to Melissa Barrett Traister for introducing us to this term (See her work on TheArsPoetica.com.)
An artist and a writer working in a team with different skill sets can help inspire each other that provide an exchange of ideas and skill sets from both sides.
Artist and writer residency
If you are a writer with a passion for art, you can join the artist for this residency. You will live surrounded by the artist in residence’s work with the primary aim to write about his body of work. You can also apply for the writer residency alone on this page.
No payment is required for the application. We will contact you if you are selected.
Statement
We won’t teach you about writing skills but about using semantics and search engine optimization related to image and text so you get the audience your aim for.
Your obligations
Reserve your place, inspire and be inspired by the artist. Write about his art, your journey, and your collaboration.

Our residency is open to creative individuals of any nationalities, above 18 years of age. Please note if you are from outside the EU, you will need a work permit for the Netherlands. We follow equal opportunity guidelines.
