Laura Raborn
Laura Raborn is an American artist based in Little Rock, Arkansas.
She earned a B.A. from Rollins College. She worked in marketing for six years. During this time, she took evening classes at the Arkansas Arts Center. She later earned a Master of Arts from UA Little Rock while working as a graduate assistant. She has participated in residencies at the Women’s International Study Center, the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and Breck Create. She teaches mixed-media workshops at institutions such as the Ah Haa School for the Arts and the Crystal Bridges Museum.
She builds multiple layers of materials in her paintings. They incorporate text, natural elements, and abstract forms. With them, her aim is to interact with or disrupt the human figure. This process reflects how people perceive one another in fragmented ways. She often focuses on a solitary figure. For her, painting explores the humanity of each subject.
Laura Raborn was in residence at Very Private Gallery in March 2025.
Interview made during the residency with Prof. Dr. Katherine Crawford, renowned historian and scholar of gender and sexuality from Vanderbilt University
